Provincial High Courts
Each state has a High Court, and the Islamabad Capital Territory has a separate High Court. There is a Chief Justice and additional puisne justices on each High Court. There are currently 60 judges on the Lahore High Court, 40 on the Sindh High Court, 20 on the Peshawar High Court, 11 on the Balochistan High Court, and 7 on the Islamabad High Court. The Court exercises original jurisdiction in the enforcement of Fundamental Rights and appellate jurisdiction in respect of judgments/orders of the Subordinate Courts in all civil and criminal matters.
Appeals are also entertained against orders/judgments of Special Courts. All tribunals under the High Court’s jurisdiction are under its supervision and management. It sets the rules of procedure for both its own court and the courts it oversees. The High Court also appoints its own employees.
